How Talking Sidewalks Can Teach You the History of Ridgefield, CT

Ridgefield CT 300th AnniversaryImagine strolling down Main Street and learning all the local history along the way. With Ridgefield’s Museum in the Streets, it’s as if the sidewalks are telling you the storied past of each historical building, landmark and monument in town. As part of Ridgefield’s 300th Anniversary celebration, the Museum in the Streets program has been installed all along the downtown sidewalks for all to enjoy.

Residents, visitors, day-trippers and school kids have been enjoying the displays that arrived last month. Numbering over 30 in all, these markers offer a glimpse into Ridgefield’s first 300 years. They are full of old pictures, stories and facts that have led to the present-day New England town as we know it.

You’ll find “Museum Markers” at Ballard Park, Town Hall, The Library and more that provide pedestrians with colorful descriptions of “what happened here”. It’s also a great way to spend time together with your kids.

Walk through town and look for the markers. Take a little extra time to enjoy Ridgefield’s Museum in the Streets.

The Museum in the Streets heritage discovery trails can also be found in these US and French towns.

Local Ridgefield Artist Shows at Norwalk’s Chocopologie!

In keeping with our chocolate theme and our love of arts, culture and great foods, here’s a show you should not miss! One of my Rainbow Lake neighbors, Noelle Carr, is a fine artist and will be the featured artist at Gallery Chocopologie from May 19 through July as part of a summer show. Chocopologie is a cafe, gallery and retail store opertated by world-renowned Knipschildt Chocolatier in historic South Norwalk, Connecticut. The mix of fine chocolate and fine art makes for an intoxicating environment to stimulate the senses on a multitude of levels.

Ridgefielder Noelle Carr paints contemporary botanical portraits that celebrate flowers on a cellular level. Each painting focuses on the beauty and splendor of each singular flower variety she chooses to paint. Through her use of color, paint texture, and technique, Ms. Carr brings life to the canvas through her subjects and her work is intended to convey the meaning and significance flowers play in all aspects of our lives from jubilation to grief.

Chocopologie is located at 12 South Main Street, Norwalk CT 06854. For more information on the artist, this show and for gallery hours go to: www.NoelleCarr.com

The Phoenix Rises on Main Street, Ridgefield

Main Street RidgefieldRidgefield’s picturesque Main Street is the envy of most every Connecticut town. Folks come from all over to enjoy our shops, sidewalks and hospitality.

That’s why Ridgefielders were so shocked in May of 2005 to learn that one of our most beloved Main Street buildings burned to the ground. (This blog provides some insight into the loss) Luckily the horrible fire only claimed property and spared all those sleeping in the a four apartments above Bissells Pharmacy and Gail’s Station House restaurant.

Although those beloved businesses successfully relocated, the void on Main Street has been an ongoing reminder of that painful night. After waiting nearly 3 years, we are all grateful that the “phoenix is rising”. The rebuilding has begun and sometime this fall, Ridgefield’s famous Main Street will be back intact. The developer will maintains that the new structure, using modern building techniques, will maintain a similar look and feel as the original.

6 Reasons Why Ridgefield Will be Better in 2008

Ridgefield Town SealThere’s a lot of good stuff going on in 2008! Ridgefield’s First Selectman Rudy Marconi delivered his State of the Town Address this week to an enthusiastic crowd. Standing before the Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce breakfast at the Community Center, Rudy made it clear that the town will continue to thrive in 2008. Highlights of his address include::

He summed things up “the town looks great, and it should continue to be great in 2008”.  We’ll be celebrating our 300th anniversary with eight months of festivities planned.

Ridgefield, CT Gets A New Eco-Friendly Bed & Breakfast: green ROCKS

How green ROCKS Inn, a B&B was Born…

This is a story about how creativity and thinking out of the box can change lives and enhance an entire town.

We had a listing in Ridgefield that is quite amazing! It is a beautiful 5 bedroom, 3.5 bath, 4500 sq. ft. home, built at the end of 2004. The house sits on nearly two serene acres abutting many acres of Ridgefield Open Space.

We put the house on the market at the beginning of 2006 and thought it would sell rather quickly. After all, it was brand new, luxury construction on spectacular property convenient to everything! We did everything imaginable to get this house sold, including holding an estate sale at the property to draw buyers. The main reason the house failed to sell was that it is on Rt. 35 (Danbury Rd.) in Ridgefield, a main road, somewhat close to a gas station. It finally became apparent that, unless they dropped the price below their comfort level, it was not going to happen in the current market. I thought, and thought about our dilemma, and finally came up with a possible solution.

6 Reasons Why Your Dog Needs to Live in Ridgefield, NOW!

Dogs in RidgefieldIf Bailey (or Jenny or Titan, …) could talk, without a doubt, he’d be saying “let’s move to Ridgefield, CT!” When checking out places to live, people always ask me about the amenities: schools/daycare, activities, recreation… you know, “what to do”. Hey guess what, dogs do the same thing… they need the 4-1-1 like everyone else! Well, all your canine’s fantasies come true in Ridgefield and here’s what we’ve got for him:

1) The Bark Park:

Where he can “hang with the gang”. A place just for dogs to run and play (w/o leashes) and to be the social animals they are. Taking your pup to the Bark Park is a great way to socialize with other dogsin the pack.

2) Ridgefield Activities and Recreation:

The local dogs go bonkers for the annual Canine Carnival where he can show off all his tricks, win competitions and look pretty for the crowd. Also, Ridgefield’s annual Bernese Mountain Dog Parade brings “Berners” from all over the Northeast to stroll down Main Street… what a sight! There’s also thousands of acres of forests and woods to walk, run and explore: Pierrepont State Part, Bennetts Pond, Hemlock Hills and swimming in Lake Windwing!
